Fujifilm has unveiled the instax mini Evo 2, the follow-up to one of its most popular hybrid instant cameras. The new model keeps the Evo’s mix of digital capture and instax mini printing, but adds a large touchscreen and two new creative features designed to make it as much about video and composition as it is about prints.

The most obvious change is around the back, where a 4.5-inch LCD touchscreen (4.46 inches, to be precise) now handles composition, settings and previewing. That’s a big step up in usability, and it supports the first of the new features, instax Expanded View. This shows a wider field of view than the actual shooting area, with an on-screen framing guide, so you can see what’s just outside the frame before you press the shutter. Anyone who has shot with a rangefinder will recognise the idea.

Immersive Movie captures the moments before the shot

The second new feature is instax Immersive Movie. This records the four seconds leading up to each photo, so you get a short clip of the movement and atmosphere before the moment you chose to capture. It’s a similar idea to the live photos found on smartphones, and it needs a microSD card to work, as clips can’t be saved to internal memory.

As with the original, creative control is a big part of the appeal. There are 10 lens effects and 10 film effects, giving 100 combinations, alongside analogue-inspired controls, adjustable exposure, white balance and flash, and a macro mode for close-ups. Prints are made at 600dpi with the choice of instax-Rich Mode for punchy colour or instax-Natural Mode for a more classic look.

The camera can also print from your phone via the updated instax mini Evo app, which also adds remote shooting. The app will be available on 24 November 2026.

For us, the Evo 2 sits in an interesting place between digital and instant photography. You get to choose which shots are worth a print rather than burning film on every frame, and the larger screen should make that selection process far easier than before.
