The FJD PowerSec90 is a V Mount Battery designed for photographers and videographers who need more power for their cameras, lighting or other kit. This 95Wh battery has been engineered to provide a reliable power source for a wide range of devices and packs in a range of power delivery options that go well beyond the standard V-Mount and D-Tap. The design and build of the battery are robust but stylish, prioritising durability and reliability, which is essential for any piece of kit that’s being used on a busy set.

Equipped with a 65W quick Power Delivery (PD) charging capability, the FJD PowerSec90 ensures efficient energy replenishment, minimising downtime during shoots. Its versatility is further enhanced by multiple power output options, including standard V-Lock, D-Tap, and USB Type-C ports, making it compatible with numerous professional camera systems and other electronic devices.

Though it lacks certain aesthetic elements like an LCD screen and a rubberised finish, the FJD PowerSec90 focuses on functionality and practicality.

The competitive price should find wide appeal as it offers an excellent balance of performance, build quality, and cost.

The FJD PowerSec90 presents a sleek and professional appearance aimed at photography and videography professionals. Its dimensions of 10.5 x 7.1 x 5.1 cm and weight of 555g make it compact and relatively lightweight, offering similar specifications to other V Mount batteries I have recently looked at.

Constructed with high-quality materials, the FJD PowerSec90 feels durable, although I would have liked to have seen a rubberised exterior material used to enhance that durability and grip further.

The battery is equipped with essential features like standard V-Lock, D-Tap, and USB Type-C ports, reflecting its adaptability to a variety of devices and camera systems. Through this test, it was used with the Canon EOS R5 C, Sony A7 IV, Sony FS7 and RotoLight ANOVA Pro II. The electronics within are designed to ensure efficient power management and delivery, with a 65W quick PD charging capability, which is more than enough for most camera systems.

In terms of handling, the FJD PowerSec90 is designed with relatively standard dimensions, meaning that when it comes to mounting, it fits seamlessly with compatible devices. Otherwise, one of the other power options, such as the USB Type-C with the 65W PD, can be used to connect to Mirrorless cameras such as the R5 C.

The build quality will suit most levels of users, from occasional to everyday use, and is suitable for both amateur and professional settings.

The battery operates efficiently in a wide temperature range from -20℃ to 50℃, which is crucial for shooting in all weather conditions, especially as we head into the UK winter. Its optimal storage temperature and humidity are noted as 23±5℃ and 65±20%, respectively.

As a lithium-ion battery, the PowerSec90 offers a reliable and efficient power source. It comes with certifications like UN 38.3, CE, CB, FCC, and VCCI, ensuring safety and compliance with international standards.

The battery’s dimensions are 10.5 x 7.1 x 5.1 cm, and it weighs 555g; these measurements for the capacity are relatively small and lightweight compared with many of the more traditional V-Mount batteries.

The FJD PowerSec90 excels in its primary role as a reliable power source. Its 95Wh capacity ensures that it can sustainably power a range of cameras, including the Canon EOS R5 C and Sony A7 IV, through the PD power option and with the V-Mount back onto the Sony FS7. It also fits directly into the back of the Rotolight ANOVA Pro IIs and through D-Tap into other lighting equipment.

This allows for rapid recharging, with most recharges using the UGREEN Nexode 300W taking less than an hour and a half for a full charge. Despite lacking a rubberised grip, the PowerSec90’s design and build quality offer a level of comfort in handling. Its size and weight make it easy to integrate into a variety of setups, and the shape also makes it nice and easy to pack alongside other V-Mount batteries.

While the PowerSec90 is robustly built, the lack of a protective cover for the USB-C port is a minor oversight that might concern users who work in more challenging environments. However, the overall construction has meant that the battery is ideal for regular use and, although showing signs of wear after a month, being thrown into a kit bag, is still in decent working condition.

The FJD PowerSec90 V Mount Battery has proved effective as a power source across a range of devices from cameras to lighting and as a power boost for the MacBook Air on the one time it did run low on power. Considering the price and features, this is one of the cheapest V-Mount options of this capacity and feature set that I have seen, and while this may still seem expensive in the V-Mount terms, this is exceptionally well priced.

Its high capacity, coupled with rapid and versatile charging options, ensures that whatever the kit, you should be able to find a way to power it using the FJD PowerSec90 V Mount Battery. On the flip side, with multiple options for charging, the USB Type-C option means that a power top is as simple as charging your phone.

The PowerSec90’s design and build quality, while straightforward and lacking certain aesthetic features, offer the practicality and robustness you would want. This makes it a decent investment, capable of withstanding the demands of frequent use. Its compact size and lightweight, well at least compared to more traditional V-Mount batteries, all add to its appeal.

The FJD PowerSec90 may not be groundbreaking, but it does what it’s supposed to do, and that’s to be a reliable, efficient, and versatile power source that perfectly balances performance, quality, and cost.
