VERYMODEL CFE-B 4.0 Lite brings 8K-ready CFexpress at a lighter price

VERYMODEL has launched the CFE-B 4.0 Lite, a CFexpress 4.0 Type B card aimed at photographers and videographers who need 8K-capable storage without professional-line pricing. It comes in 512GB and 1TB, and there is a meaningful difference between them worth understanding before you buy. Details are on VERYMODEL’s Amazon listings.

The two capacities are not the same card

Both are rated at up to 3000MB/s read, but the write speeds differ: the 512GB writes at up to 2600MB/s, while the 1TB writes at up to 3000MB/s. That is not unusual — larger cards often have more memory chips to write across in parallel, so they run faster — but it does mean the 1TB is the one to choose if sustained write performance matters most to you, not simply the one with more room.

For context on where this sits, CFexpress 4.0 Type B uses a PCIe 4.0 interface and is roughly twice as fast as the CFexpress 2.0 cards many cameras shipped with, and a world away from the 530MB/s of the older CFast 2.0 standard it effectively replaces.

What it is built for

VERYMODEL pitches the Lite squarely at 8K60 video recording and high-resolution stills, which is what CFexpress Type B exists for — the format is standard across high-end mirrorless and cinema bodies from Nikon, Canon, Panasonic and others. The card carries the usual ruggedness claims too: shockproof, magnet-proof, temperature-proof, waterproof and X-ray-proof, which for anyone working on location or travelling through airport security is reassurance worth having.

The honest caveats

Two things the marketing does not lead with, and both matter.

First, and most important for video: VERYMODEL quotes maximum read and write speeds but not a sustained write figure or a VPG rating. Peak speed is what a card hits in a burst; sustained write is the floor it never drops below during continuous recording, and that is what actually determines whether a camera can hold a high-bitrate 8K mode without stuttering. Without that number, the 8K60 claim is plausible — the peak speeds are high enough — but unverified. It is the first thing a review would test.

Second, the name. This is the “Lite” line, which positions it below the flagship cards from Angelbird, ProGrade, Lexar and Sony. That is not a criticism — for many shooters a well-priced card that reliably records 8K is exactly right — but if you are shooting professional RAW where a dropped frame is a re-shoot, the certified-sustained-write cards remain the safer choice.

As with any CFexpress Type B card, note it fits Type B slots only — not SD, and not the smaller CFexpress Type A used by Sony. And VERYMODEL points out you will need a CFexpress 4.0 Type B reader to see the full speeds; one is not included.
