Panasonic is bringing a global shutter sensor to its PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) camera range for the first time. The AW-UE200 and AW-UER200 use a 5K 1.2-type global shutter MOS sensor, and Panasonic says they’re the first PTZ cameras to do so.
A global shutter reads the whole sensor at once, so fast pans don’t skew vertical lines and LED walls and stage lighting are less likely to cause banding or flicker. That’s a real benefit in the places PTZ cameras are used most: live events, concerts, churches, conferences and broadcast studios.
A roll axis for vertical video
The AW-UER200 adds a third axis. Its roll mechanism rotates the camera through -200° to +200°, so it can switch between 16:9 and 9:16 while using the full sensor, rather than cropping a vertical frame from a horizontal one. With so much live content now going straight to phone-first platforms, that’s a smart addition. It also has one-touch horizontal levelling.
Both cameras have a 22x optical zoom with an 80° wide angle, and Panasonic says the zoom can travel from tele to wide in around 0.5 seconds. HD recording reaches 180fps for slow motion, and pan acceleration is quoted at 1800° per second.
Other features include built-in auto framing, an e-paper display and a broad range of IP and baseband connections. SMPTE ST 2110 and Dante support are available on the AW-UE210 and AW-UER210 variants.
