nubia has launched the RedMagic 12 Pro+ in China, the latest in its line of gaming phones built around performance, cooling and battery life.

It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, built on a 2nm process. To keep it cool, RedMagic has once again fitted a built-in cooling fan, its trademark feature. The 6.85-inch AMOLED display runs at up to 185Hz and 5,000 nits peak brightness, and the front camera sits under the display, so there’s no punch-hole or notch to interrupt games or video.

The battery is a huge 8,400mAh, with 120W wired and 80W wireless charging, plus 22.5W reverse wired charging.

Cameras aren’t the focus of a gaming phone, but the setup here is respectable. There’s a 50MP f/1.9 main camera with OIS and a 50MP f/2.0 ultra-wide, along with an auxiliary sensor. The rear cameras record up to 8K at 30fps and slow motion at 1080p up to 240fps. The 16MP under-display selfie camera records 1080p video at up to 60fps.

Under-display front cameras still tend to compromise image quality, so this isn’t a phone for selfie fans. But for gamers who also want capable main and ultra-wide cameras, the specs look solid on paper.

RedMagic phones usually reach the UK through the company’s own global store some time after the Chinese launch, but there’s no confirmation yet for the 12 Pro+.
