Saramonic has introduced the K9 XTX, a digital UHF wireless plug-on transmitter designed to turn professional XLR microphones into wireless tools for filmmakers, documentary crews, location sound recordists and production teams. The key idea here is not just “another wireless mic”, but a way to make proper production microphones easier to deploy when you’re moving quickly between interviews, boom work, live events or multi-camera shoots.
That’s why I think this is interesting for Camera Jabber readers. A lot of us now shoot with leaner crews, smaller kits and tighter turnarounds, but audio still has to be reliable. The Saramonic K9 XTX is built around a wideband 550–960 MHz digital UHF platform with GPS-based frequency updates, which is intended to help when productions move between regions or changing RF environments. It also supports selectable 3V to 48V phantom power, so it can work with a broad range of XLR microphones, including shotgun mics on a boom and handheld interview microphones.
The more practical feature, though, is the 32-bit float onboard recording with 64GB of internal storage. In a documentary interview or fast-moving commercial shoot, that backup recording could be the safety net if wireless reception dips or someone suddenly speaks far louder than expected. We’ve also seen how useful 32-bit float recording can be in compact audio recorders. Wireless timecode synchronisation is also built in, which should help teams working with separate audio and multiple cameras reduce sync work once everything gets into the edit.
Saramonic is also leaning into app-based control. Through the Saramonic System App, users can remotely manage up to 48 devices, group systems, update firmware, activate sleep mode and coordinate frequencies without physically reaching every transmitter. For small sound teams working across multiple contributors, that could save real time on set.
There’s also a field-use angle. The transmitter can run from exchangeable AA batteries or USB-C power, with up to 14 hours of claimed operation, and Saramonic lists optional IP66 protection when it is used with the waterproof housing. A locking XLR connector, large colour display, adjustable RF power up to 100mW, plus wireless and wired timecode support round out the main working features.
If you’re weighing this against more compact creator-focused systems, our Saramonic Ultra review is worth a read for a sense of where Saramonic’s recent wireless audio kit sits in real-world use. For broader context, we’ve also covered choosing the best wireless mic system, and our guide to the best audio gear for video explains why separate audio recording, monitoring and sync are still such important parts of a serious video workflow.
