Viltrox brings four Air lenses to L-mount — and adds two fast f/1.2 APS-C primes

L-mount has been the poor relation for third-party autofocus glass, and Viltrox is doing something about it. At IBC 2026 the company unveiled four new full-frame autofocus lenses for the mount — the AF 14mm F4.0, AF 20mm F2.8, AF 40mm F2.5 and AF 50mm F2.0 — bringing its lightweight Air series to Leica, Panasonic and Sigma cameras. Why this matters for L-mount owners

Since joining the L-Mount Alliance in 2025, Viltrox had released just two autofocus lenses for the mount. Adding four at once is a step change, and it addresses a real gap: Sony E and Nikon Z shooters have enjoyed an expanding choice of affordable third-party glass for years, while L-mount owners have largely faced first-party prices or nothing.

The four are drawn from Viltrox’s Air series — the lightweight, affordable, compact line originally launched for Sony E and Nikon Z. Two of them are the more interesting for being genuinely underserved on the mount: affordable autofocus ultra-wides are thin on the ground for L-mount, so the 14mm F4.0 and 20mm F2.8 fill a space the major manufacturers largely leave alone. The 40mm F2.5 and 50mm F2.0 cover everyday and standard duties.

Together they make a light, inexpensive four-lens kit possible on an L-mount body — which pairs neatly with the compact full-frame cameras the system has been building around, from the Panasonic S9 to the Sigma BF.

The wider Viltrox push

The L-mount lenses headline a broader launch. Viltrox also introduced the AF 35mm F1.4 Pro, a full-frame Pro-series optic, and two fast APS-C lenses — the 18mm F1.2 Pro and 40mm F1.2 Pro — alongside a new high-power flash.

Those two APS-C f/1.2 lenses are worth noting, because they are unusual. Fast f/1.2 autofocus glass for APS-C is rare from anyone, so a 27mm-equivalent and a 60mm-equivalent at f/1.2 are genuinely distinctive. The obvious caveat is size and weight: an f/1.2 lens is never small, and on a compact APS-C body the balance may be a consideration.

What we do not yet know

Pricing and firm on-sale dates have not been confirmed for any of them, and pre-orders for the L-mount four are expected to open within a couple of weeks. Viltrox’s Air lenses have typically been very keenly priced, so the L-mount versions should follow suit — but that is an expectation rather than a confirmed figure.

Viltrox has become one of the most prolific lens makers in the industry, and its trajectory — from manual-focus budget glass to a broad autofocus line-up across four mounts — has been genuinely good for photographers, particularly those on systems the big names underserve. This launch continues that, and L-mount owners are the clear winners.
