Atomos has revealed that while the Ninja V monitor/recorder is set to continue, it will be introducing a new product in the Ninja line in May. This will enable 4K 120p video to be recorded in ProRea raw.
As a 5-inch external monitor with a brightness of 1000nit, the Atomos Ninja V allows videographers to monitor the raw video they capture in daylight.
Users can view ProRes raw footage accurately in HDR in a choice of HLG and PQ (HDR10) formats.
The Ninja V also enables touchscreen access to waveforms, 1-1 magnification and focus peaking. It’s also a recorder and with a removable SSD fitted, it enables ProRes Raw recording – something that’s not possible internally with most cameras.
ProRes Raw
There are now more than 20 cameras that support the Atomos and ProRes RAW combination and many videographers are discovering the advantages of shooting raw video. For example, it gives filmmakers much greater latitude for adjusting the appearance of their video and increases the amount of detail visible in the shadows and highlights.
ProRes Raw is fully supported in Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro and Avid Media Composer, along with a collection of other apps including ASSIMILATE SCRATCH, Colorfront, FilmLight Baselight and Grass Valley Edius.
