Tamron Co., Ltd. has officially announced the development of its first lens designed specifically for CANON RF mount systems, the 11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD (Model B060). This marks a significant step for Tamron, expanding its lens options for Canon’s APS-C mirrorless camera users.

The new 11-20mm lens boasts a fast aperture of F/2.8 across the entire zoom range, making it a versatile tool for a variety of shooting conditions, particularly in low light. This ultra-wide-angle zoom lens covers focal lengths from 11mm to 20mm, allowing for expansive landscape shots and dynamic architectural images. The constant F/2.8 aperture ensures superior light gathering throughout the zoom range, enhancing image quality and enabling more creative exposure options.

Designed to be compact and lightweight, the lens complements the smaller form factor of APS-C mirrorless cameras. Despite its small size, the lens does not compromise on image quality. It promises high-level optical performance that includes a Minimum Object Distance (MOD) of 0.15m at the 11mm focal length, enabling a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4. Such features are perfect for photographers interested in both expansive scenes and detailed close-ups.

Autofocus is powered by TAMRON’s RXD (Rapid-eXtra-silent stepping Drive) motor, which ensures that the lens operates quietly. This makes it suitable for both still photography and video recording, where maintaining a low noise profile is crucial. Additionally, the lens is equipped with several features designed for durability and usability in outdoor conditions. These include Moisture-Resistant Construction and Fluorine Coating on the front element to protect against fingerprints and smudging.

The lens’s introduction follows numerous requests from Tamron’s customer base for more options compatible with the CANON RF mount, prompting Tamron to secure a license agreement with Canon to develop and produce RF mount-compatible lenses.

The 11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD is set to launch within 2024, although a specific release date and pricing details have yet to be announced. This lens is poised to become a favourite among Canon APS-C camera users, particularly those who appreciate the blend of wide-angle versatility and optical excellence in a compact package.

Prospective buyers and photography enthusiasts are advised to monitor Tamron’s official website for further information and updates on availability.
