Profoto, the high-end Swedish photographic lighting company has announced a new wireless flash trigger, the Profoto Connect Pro, with a list price of £339.
The Profoto Connect Pro has the company’s AirX wireless communication technology and can be set to operate across one of 100 channels. It will be available for Canon, Nikon and Fujifilm cameras at launch, with the Leica and Sony compatible versions following later. There will also be a non-TTL version that will operate with any camera with a standard hotshoe.
The new Profoto Connect Pro offers two modes, Air 1 and Air 2. In Air 1 mode, it works in a very similar way to the current Air-Remote TTL and only shows the adjustment in the light power, but in Air 2 mode, it displays the power of the light.
The new Connect Pro also offers improved TTL group control. By default, three of the four buttons on the top of the unit give a control over light groups A, B and C, with a dial allowing the power to be adjusted intuitively. The fourth button is marked D-F and pressing it switches the three button above to accessing the output for groups D, E and F. As with the current Air TTL, groups D, E and F only work in non-TTL mode.
The Profoto Connect Pro is powered by three AAA batteries which are said to last for up to 50 hours. These batteries can be standard alkaline batteries or rechargeable units and there’s an option in the menu to set the different battery types.
Bluetooth and 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connectivity is built-in and the Connect Pro is compatible with Profoto’s app for iOS and Android smartphones, giving another means of adjusting the light settings.
