Manfrotto is teasing an addition to its ONE platform, with a first look promised at the IBC Show in Amsterdam next month. The company says the new video support solutions are built for faster setup, smoother control and greater flexibility on set. Details are on Manfrotto’s site.

That is all Manfrotto is giving away for now — no product name, no specification and no price. What we can reasonably infer comes from what the ONE platform already is, and from the three products Manfrotto highlights alongside the teaser.

The ONE platform is Manfrotto’s modular approach to camera support, built around the idea that a tripod should adapt to the job rather than the other way round. At its centre is ONE Hybrid, a tripod designed to cover both stills and video, from ground level to top-down work. Around it sits the 500X fluid head, built for mirrorless workflows with smooth, precise movement, and the XCHANGE Quick Release system, which allows heads, sliders and accessories to be swapped in seconds.

XCHANGE is the interesting part, and it is where we would place a bet. A modular quick-release system only becomes genuinely valuable as the range of things you can attach to it grows, so a new component that clips into that ecosystem would make more sense than a standalone product. Manfrotto’s phrasing — “something new is coming to the ONE platform” — points the same way.

For photographers who also shoot video, and increasingly that is most of us, the appeal of a system like this is not having to own two complete sets of support. One set of legs, one quick-release standard, and the ability to reconfigure between a stills session and a video shoot without unbolting everything. Whether Manfrotto’s version is worth committing to depends on how deep the ecosystem goes, which is precisely why an addition to it matters.

IBC runs in Amsterdam in September, and we will update this story once Manfrotto reveals what is coming.
