DJI adds premium safety and stronger imaging for first-time flyers

What you need to know about the Lito X1

DJI has announced the Lito X1 as the premium model in its new beginner-focused Lito drone range. It combines a sub-249g body with omnidirectional obstacle sensing, forward-facing LiDAR and a larger 1/1.3-inch sensor than the cheaper Lito 1. DJI is pitching it at first-time drone users who want better image quality, stronger safety features and more room to grow creatively. UK pricing starts at £369.

A beginner drone with LiDAR and 4K HDR

DJI has announced the new Lito X1, a beginner-friendly drone that aims to make aerial photography less intimidating without stripping out the features enthusiasts actually want. Sitting at the top of the new Lito range, the X1 combines a lightweight sub-249g body with stronger safety tech, a larger sensor and advanced video options that go beyond the usual entry-level formula.

The headline feature is omnidirectional obstacle sensing with forward-facing LiDAR. That is a notable addition at this level, and DJI is clearly pitching it at newcomers who want more confidence in the air. The company says the system improves obstacle detection in complex scenes and also helps with safer return-to-home performance in darker conditions. In a crowded starter-drone market, that could be one of the Lito X1’s strongest selling points.

The camera is also a step up from the cheaper model in the range. DJI has equipped the Lito X1 with a 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor with 48MP effective resolution, along with support for 4K/60fps HDR recording, 4K/100fps slow motion and 10-bit D-Log M. That gives beginner users more room to grow, especially if they want better dynamic range or more flexibility when editing footage. DJI also claims improved low-light performance, alongside wide focus support and Portrait Mode.

As you would expect, DJI has included its familiar smart shooting tools. ActiveTrack 360°, QuickShots, MasterShots, Hyperlapse and Panorama are all onboard, making it easier for first-time users to get polished-looking clips quickly. DJI also quotes up to 36 minutes of flight time with the standard battery, 15km video transmission and 42GB of internal storage, plus Wi-Fi 6 QuickTransfer for faster file handling.

On paper, the Lito X1 looks like DJI’s attempt to make a first drone feel less like a compromise. For buyers who want stronger safety features and better video quality from day one, it could be the more interesting launch in the new Lito line.
