The cheap-and-cheerful digital camera revival shows no sign of slowing, and the latest to catch our eye is a properly retro one. Japanese brand Sourcenext has launched the DIGI+ DGP-DCM01, a translucent, skeleton-bodied compact with a distinctly Y2K aesthetic and, unusually for the price, a second selfie-friendly screen on the front. It was spotted by PetaPixel, with full details on the DIGI+ product page.
The dual-display layout is the party piece. Alongside a 2.4-inch IPS screen on the back, there’s a 1.3-inch display on the front, making it easy to frame a self-portrait — something usually reserved for pricier cameras with flip-out screens, and genuinely handy for the selfie and vlogging crowd this is squarely aimed at. Wrap that in a see-through retro shell weighing just 102g, and you have a camera with obvious social-media appeal.
On the specs front, expectations should be kept in check: this is a fun, casual camera rather than a serious imaging tool. It uses a 5-megapixel CMOS sensor (with interpolated resolutions offered up to 48MP), a fixed F2.0 lens with a 75-degree field of view and 3x digital zoom, and can shoot 4K video at 30fps. There’s autofocus, a handful of shooting modes, microSD storage up to 64GB, USB-C, a webcam function, and around three hours of battery life.
It’s the kind of low-stakes, characterful camera that’s finding a real audience among younger shooters who want something more tactile and deliberate than a phone. At roughly ¥7,980 (about $50) it’s an impulse-buy price, and while image quality will be modest, that translucent body and front screen give it more personality than most. For now it’s a Japan-first release, so international availability remains to be seen.
