Panasonic has introduced the Lumix S 28-200mm F4-7.1 Macro OIS, a new addition to its L-mount lens lineup. At the time of announcement, it is the most compact and lightest long zoom lens and measures 93.4mm in length while weighing around 413g. Its expansive focal length, taking in the 28mm to 200mm range, makes the new lens an attractive option for travel photography with Panasonic’s Lumix S Series for full-frame mirrorless cameras.
While its focal length range makes the Lumix S 28-200mm F4-7.1 Macro OIS suitable for shooting everything from wide landscapes to detailed portraits, the fact it can focus as close as just 3cm from the subject makes it even more versatile. At the nearest focusing point, it delivers half-life-size reproduction, making it attractive for close-up photography.
The 28-200mm lens is equipped with a 5-axis Dual I.S. 2 Image Stabilizer and is said to exhibit minimal focus breathing. These features, plus the micro-step aperture control for smooth exposure transitions, add to the appeal of the lens for video as well as still photography. Users can also select between linear or nonlinear focus ring settings.
