Canon PowerShot PX smart camera: specs, price, release date confirmed

The Canon PowerShot PX’s subject detection and face recognition technology to enable it to capture candid images from anywhere in a room automatically. It’s designed for use by families who want to capture special moments without anyone needing to be behind the camera.

The camera can pan left and right by 170° and tilt-up by 90° or down by 20° so it can capture shots almost wherever the action is either automatically, using voice commands or manually via the smartphone app.

Inside the Canon PowerShot PX is an 11.7Mp 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor and a Digic 7 processor fronted by a19-57mm (equivalent) lens that’s designed to frame shots in the home. It’s capable of recording 11Mp Jpegs stills or Full HD (1920 x 1080) MP4 video to a microSD card. Files can also be transferred wirelessly to a connected smart device running the PowerShot PX app for iOS and Android.

The PowerShot PX app also enables the camera to be controlled remotely via a smartphone so that images can be composed manually as well as automatically.

The PowerShot PX will be available from November and will retail at £449.99 / €499.99.
