Capture One has released version 16.8.6, an update aimed squarely at studio and on-set photographers. The headline feature is Assisted Review, a beta tool that analyses images as they arrive during a tethered session and flags problems such as closed eyes, focus issues and flash failures.

The update, released on 16 September, also extends Capture One’s second-generation wireless tethering to more Canon bodies and adds support for the new Canon EOS R8 Mark II.

Assisted Review

Assisted Review automatically tags incoming images that it thinks have a problem, so photographers, clients and digital techs can spot a blink or a missed flash straight away rather than during the edit. It’s effectively AI culling brought forward to the moment of capture, and it’s the kind of feature that could save a reshoot on a busy commercial set. It’s currently labelled as a beta.

Wireless tethering

Second-generation Wireless Tethering now works with the Canon EOS R3 and Canon EOS R6 Mark III. Capture One says images can appear fully editable in one to two seconds, with the full-resolution file reconciling automatically in the background once it has finished transferring.

Live View has also been tweaked. Tools and tabs can now be hidden to give more space to the image, the Focus Meter cursor tool has its own tooltip, and the minimum window size has been reduced.

New camera support

The Canon EOS R8 Mark II gets full support, including wired and wireless tethering and Live View. File support has also been added for the Ricoh GR IV, GR IV Monochrome and GR IV HDF.

Bug fixes address AppleScript tethering mode selection, importing Lightroom catalogues and start-up issues on macOS Tahoe.
