Viltrox launches silver Air series lenses for Fujifilm X-mount from £165

Viltrox has released silver versions of three of its compact Air-series autofocus primes for Fujifilm X-mount: the AF 9mm f/2.8, AF 15mm f/1.7 and AF 25mm f/1.7. The optics are unchanged — this is a cosmetic release — but on Fujifilm bodies that is rather more relevant than it sounds. The lenses are available through the Viltrox store and Amazon.

Fujifilm’s X-mount cameras are among the few modern systems where a silver-and-black finish is genuinely common, and anyone who has paired a silver X-T5 or X-E5 with an all-black third-party lens knows the aesthetic mismatch is real. First-party XF lenses are often offered in silver for exactly this reason, and until now the budget third-party alternative meant accepting black. That is a small thing, but it is precisely the sort of small thing Fujifilm owners care about.

The Air series is Viltrox’s lightweight, affordable line, designed to keep size and weight down while still offering autofocus — a sensible match for Fujifilm’s smaller bodies, where a heavy lens undermines the point of the camera. The 15mm and 25mm both offer a bright f/1.7 aperture, while the 9mm f/2.8 covers ultra-wide duties for landscapes, interiors and vlogging.

UK pricing is where these make their case: £190 for the 9mm, £229 for the 15mm and £165 for the 25mm. At those prices you could buy all three for less than a single fast XF prime, which explains why Viltrox has built such a following among Fujifilm shooters. We would want to check the usual budget-lens caveats — corner performance wide open, and autofocus behaviour on older bodies — but as a way to build out a small, light three-lens kit without spending heavily, the Air series remains hard to argue with.
