The space beneath a tripod is dead space. Tether Tools has decided it shouldn’t be, and is introducing two Tripod Hammocks that turn it into accessible gear storage. Details will be on the Tether Tools website.
Two versions, different jobs
The Tripod Sport Hammock is the lightweight option, built for speed and portability with an expandable design for cables, batteries, multi-tools, personal items and everyday shooting essentials.
The Tripod Multi-Pro Hammock is the more substantial one, with structured multi-compartment storage and removable padded dividers for lenses, filters, batteries, cables, hard drives and cleaning supplies — effectively a small organised bag that lives under your tripod.
Both use a secure-lock magnetic quick-connect system, where magnets guide the connectors into position and mechanical buckles then physically lock the hammock in place. That combination matters: magnets alone would be convenient but not trustworthy with expensive glass sitting in the thing, while buckles alone would be fiddly to attach one-handed. Each is tested and rated to 45lb (20.4kg), though Tether Tools sensibly notes that usable capacity depends on your tripod’s own load rating and stability.
Construction is weather-resistant ripstop.
Why it’s a genuinely good idea
Anyone who shoots on location knows the compromise. You either put your bag on the ground — wet grass, sand, mud, or simply out of sight where it can be walked off with — or you keep walking back to a cart or a car every time you need a filter.
The under-tripod space solves both problems at once: it is right where you are standing, it keeps gear off the ground, and it adds ballast to the tripod, which is a useful side effect in wind. Landscape photographers have been improvising this for years by hanging a bag from the centre column, but that swings, and it doesn’t organise anything.
The Multi-Pro’s padded dividers are the detail that appeals most to us. Filters and lenses rattling around loose in a hanging bag is not an improvement on a bag on the ground; compartments make it a genuine working solution.
We’d want to test how it behaves in wind with a load in it, and how much it interferes with spreading tripod legs low for ground-level work. But as an answer to a genuinely irritating problem, it is well judged.
