ZHIYUN SM5
News

Zhiyun is a dominating force in the single-handed gimbal stabiliser market with products that include the phenomenal Crane and WeeBill series of gimbals.

Today the company has launched the SM5 challenge, which gives filmmakers the chance to win part of a $40,000 US dollar prize fund.

The outright winner of the competition will receive $10,000 along with a selection of filmmaking products, including ZHIYUN’s gimbals.

As well as the main prize, there will be additional prizes of $3,000 and filmmaking products for each of the winners of the five categories.

This competition highlights the company’s commitment to the filmmaking community and runs alongside the launch of the SMOOTH 5 gimbal that supplies 3-axis stabilisation to smartphone users.

The new SMOOTH 5 boosts your smartphone’s filmmaking potential and further extends your phone’s cinematic abilities alongside the ZY Cami app.

The competition rules are simple; entrants must use a smartphone to create a 90-240 seconds long film that fits into one of the following categories: narrative, mini-documentary, adventure, music & dance, how-to.

The competition launches on 3 December 2021 and closes on 20 January 2022, with the winners announced on 27 January 2022. The judging panel includes ZHIYUN, Insta360, Artlist, Artgrid, Motion Array, NANLITE, SmallRig and ESRgear.

Categories:

Narrative: Tell a fictional or fictionalised story, be it an event or narrative such as a love story, or move us to tears or anguish, or keep us in suspense with a story from the heart, drawing us into the wondrous world you create.

Mini-Documentary: Record a non-fictional short film dedicated to instruction or education, or documenting a historical event. Inform, educate us and provoke us.

Adventure: Lead us through the forest, or deep down into the ocean, or climb up on the mountain high. Delight or thrill us with a record of your journey.

Music & Dance: Show us how you create the perfect combination of music and dance.

How-to: Get creative with the content and format it; don’t hesitate to teach us how to do… just about anything!

Entry steps

1. Select a category and shoot the film using smartphones. The film can include some drone or action cam footage if needed. The film must be longer than 90 seconds and under 4 minutes.

2. Make a behind-the-scenes film to show us how you made your amazing short film, up to 2 minutes.

3.   Download our starter kit provided by Artlist, or open a free trial account on Artlist to use their music to edit your film.

4. Upload the film and the BTS film separately on YouTube or Instagram, hashtag #zhiyunmobilefilmchallenge, and include the category that you choose in the title or caption, e.g. The Horror film (name of the film) | Narrative #zhiyunmobilefilmchallenge (must be set to public).

5. Submit the film with the link to your YouTube or Instagram post, and the original file download link to official@zhiyun-tech.com when you have finished.

The requirements:

1. The film must be shot mostly on a phone with a resolution equal to 1080P or higher.

2. The film must include the music from Artlist, (not entirely, but some of the film must include it). If you are already an Artlist subscriber, feel free to use any song from Artlist.

3. Must give credit to the name of the song used in the film, either in the text of the post, description box of YouTube, in the film, or in the email.

4. The film must be longer than 90 seconds, and under 4 minutes, and the behind-the-scenes film must be under 2 minutes.
