Venus Optics has announced the first 2x macro lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras, introducing the Laowa 50mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO, priced at $399.
The new Laowa 50mm f/2.8 macro lens offers a 2x maximum magnification ratio along with a minimum focusing distance of 13.5cm. As the first lens to offer a greater than life-size magnification for Micro Four Thirds cameras, it should allow users to capture the fine details of small subjects.
What’s more, the new Laowa 50mm f/2.8 macro’s 100mm equivalent focal length means it can also serve as a portrait lens.
Inside the new Laowa lens is a CPU chip and motor so that you can control the aperture from your camera body.
Other features include an apochromatic design with 14 elements in 10 groups, of which three are extra-low dispersion glass to help reduce chromatic aberrations.
The Laowa 50mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO measures just 79mm long and weighs 240g.
The Laowa 50mm f/2.8 price tag is $399, and is available now.
