Compact gimbal camera delivers advanced tracking and cinematic video

DJI has unveiled the Osmo Pocket 4, a significant upgrade to its compact gimbal camera line, aimed squarely at content creators seeking professional-grade video in a pocket-sized form. Building on the popularity of its predecessor, the new model introduces a 1-inch CMOS sensor paired with an f/2.0 aperture, delivering improved low-light performance and enhanced image clarity across a wide range of shooting scenarios.

A key highlight is the ability to record 4K video at up to 240fps, enabling ultra-slow-motion capture with impressive detail. The camera also supports 14 stops of dynamic range and 10-bit D-Log, allowing for richer tonal gradation and greater flexibility in post-production. These enhancements ensure more natural skin tones and balanced exposures, even in challenging lighting environments such as sunsets or high-contrast scenes.

Stabilisation remains central to the Osmo Pocket series, and the three-axis gimbal in the Pocket 4 ensures smooth, shake-free footage during handheld shooting. DJI has also introduced ActiveTrack 7.0, which enhances subject tracking performance, even when zoomed in up to 4x. Additional modes such as Spotlight Follow and Dynamic Framing make it easier to capture cinematic shots single-handedly.

Autofocus capabilities have also been refined, with Intelligent AutoFocus and Subject Lock Tracking keeping moving subjects sharp and centred. Users can switch subjects with a simple tap or prioritise specific individuals using Registered Subject Priority. Gesture controls further streamline operation, allowing users to trigger tracking or recording with simple hand signals.

Usability improvements include a rotatable screen that automatically starts recording, a dedicated zoom button, and a customisable preset button. The addition of a 5D joystick offers more precise control over camera movement. With 107GB of built-in storage and high-speed data transfer, the Pocket 4 eliminates the immediate need for external memory cards.

Creative features such as Slow Shutter Video, Film Tone presets, and in-camera beautification tools expand shooting possibilities. An attachable fill light accessory enhances low-light scenes, while fast charging delivers up to 80% battery in just 18 minutes, supporting extended shooting sessions.

Audio capabilities are equally robust, with compatibility across DJI’s Mic ecosystem, enabling up to four-channel audio recording for more professional sound capture.
