Sony has announced the FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G, price tag £1,300, the world’s lightest constant f/4 wide-angle zoom lens.
Sony’s latest addition to its G series lenses is also ultra-compact and built for portability. Designed with content creators in mind, the new Sony FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G is aimed at vloggers, remote movie productions and landscape photographers.
The hybrid lens includes two Advanced Aspherical elements, a standard aspherical element, one Super ED, one ED glass element and on ED aspherical element within its construction. Its minimum focusing distance is just 0.28m at the wide-angle 16mm end of the focal range, and 0.24m at the 35mm end.
The Sony FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G employs six of Sony’s XD Linear Motors for focus and zoom drive, which is a first for an Alpha lens. Sony says this delivers faster responses alongside quieter operation.
This XD linear motor drives an electronic power zoom system that helps to minimise camera shake. What’s more, a Linear Response MF allows photographers to make just subtle control movements when focusing manually.
The Sony FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G weighs just 353g and measures 80.5mm x 88.1mm in size, with a filter diameter or 72mm.
The Sony FE PZ 16-35MM F4 G price tag is estimated to be around £1,300, with a release date slated for May 2022. You can pre-order the new Sony lens at retailers such as B&H Photo Video.
