Nikon has announced a new full-frame DSLR, the Nikon D780 – price tag from £2,199 – with a release date set for January 23, 2020.

A Nikon D750 replacement, the D780 features a 24.5-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, coupled with Nikon’s latest EXPEED 6 image processor. The Nikon D780 also uses same 180K-pixel RGB sensor and Advanced Scene Recognition system as the D850.

AF

The D780 employs a 273-point Hybrid AF system when shooting in live view. The new Nikon camera’s Hybrid AF is sensitive down to -4EV, or down to -6EV when using Low-Light AF mode. What’s more, Nikon’s Eye-Detection AF mode is available when shooting stills.

There’s also a 51-point Phase Detection AF system for viewfinder shooting, which is sensitive down to -3EV.

Continuous Shooting

Nikon is also promising speed with the D780, offering burst rates of up to 7fps when shooting via the viewfinder and up to 12fps in Silent Photography mode during Live View shooting.

The Nikon D780 also offers a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000sec.

Video

The Nikon D780 can shoot 4K/UHD video at 30p, 25p and 24p with no crop factor. Footage can be recorded in N-Log for

What’s more, you can also use an external movie recorder to capture HLG HDR footage, which you can view on a compatible TV or monitor.

Other Features

The Nikon D780 offers a native ISO range of 100 to 51,200, which is extendable up to 204,800 or down to ISO 50.

There’s also built-in time-lapse capability.

The Nikon D780 price tag will be £2,199 for the body only. The Nikon D780 price tag rises to £2,619 for the camera body plus the NIKKOR AF-S 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens.

Nikon says the D780 release date will be early spring 2020, we were told 23rd January at our briefing.
