News

Canon has announced new firmware updates for the Canon EOS R5, Canon EOS R6 and Canon EOS-1D X Mark III that add new features from the EOS R3 to the trio of cameras.

With the new firmware update, all three cameras will have the option to change the settings for “simultaneous recording” and “current drive” during remote operation, as well as disable the multi-controller for FTP transfer.

All three cameras will also have the option to change the default from Active to Passive with the FTP Server Passive Mode Setting.

The EOS R5 and EOS R6 will also receive new subject tracking capabilities. They’ll inherit the R3’s vehicle and body detection AF modes, as well as improved Face and Eye Detection AF for people wearing masks.

Other features coming to the EOS R5 and EOS R6 will a White Capture Mode in Live View (Manual White Balance), EVF Smooth to suppress lower frame rates in low light and manual focus support for the RF 70-200 mm F4L IS USM.

The EOS R5 has also been updated to support Canon’s new RF 5.2mm F2.8L DUAL FISHEYE VR lens.

New to the EOS-1D X Mark III are new settings to enable image rating and voice memos to be set at the same time, as well as enhanced Head Detection for winter sports athletes who are wearing goggles. Users can also now change the default Power Saving Settings for FTP transfers from ‘use’ to ‘not use’.

The new Canon firmware updates will be available to download from 2 December 2021 from Canon support centres.
