The CP+ 2020 trade show in Japan has been officially canceled due to fears of the widening coronavirus epidemic, organisers have announced.

The move comes just days after the Mobile World Congress event suffered the same fate. The Camera & Imaging Products Association (CIPA), the organisers of the annual event, posted a statement announcing the cancellation.

“Given there is no effective treatment or containment measures to deal with the novel coronavirus, we have chosen to cancel CP+ 2020 because we put top priority on the health and safety of visitors and exhibitors,” CIPA said.

The show was originally schedule to kick off from 27 February and run for four days in Yokohama, Japan.

Yokohama is also where the Diamond Princess cruise ship is currently docked with quarantined passengers.

CIPA says that some 70,000 people were expected to attend CP+ 2020.
