Canon has officially announced the EOS 90D – price tag £1,209.99 / €1,449.99 – which boasts a new 32.5-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor.
With its newly designed sensor Canon says the EOS 90D ‘achieves full frame levels of resolution but with the additional benefit of reach provided by the APS-C format.’
Specs
Aimed at wildlife and sports photographers, the Canon EOS 90D is built for speed and shoots 10fps with autofocus tracking and 11fps in Live View.
Canon’s EOS 80D successor also comes with the company’s latest generation DIGIC 8 processor. This helps the 90D deliver shutter speeds to of up to 1/16000sec using the camera’s electronic shutter. This should offer photographers greater flexibility to capture a wider depth of field in low light.
The Canon EOS 90D also offers built-in lens correction tools, including the Digital Lens Optimiser and Diffraction Correction. There’s also built-in WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities for sharing images straight from the camera or for creating live content.
Other features include Canon’s eye autofocus tracking, a 220,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor with Flicker Detection and a native ISO range of 100 – 25,600.

Video
The Canon EOS 90D can record video at 4K resolution video utilising the full angle view of the lens. It can also shoot 4K video in cropped mode, as well as Full HD at up to 120fps.
The EOS 90D is also designed with vloggers in mind, boasting microphone and headphone ports for more professional sound quality in videos.
Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is also available in the EOS 90D’s 4K and Full HD video modes, and offers an area coverage of 88 x 100%.
Body Design
Canon has designed the EOS 90D with a lighter body and a deeper grip, which the company says gives photographers better balance when shooting with longer lenses.
There are two multi-function dials, including a new multi-controller inherited from Canon’s professional range. The EOS 90D also offers customisable buttons and a 7.7cm Vari-Angle touchscreen.

The Canon EOS 90D price tag will be £1,209.99 / €1,449.99, with a release date set for 12 September.
