Bangladeshi photographer KM Asad has won the title Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2020 with a powerful image called ‘After Exodus’ which was shot in a Rohingya refugee camp that has over one million residents. Like much of th world, the camp is now in lockdown in an attempt to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
Asad’s image was selected almost 9000 entries from over 70 countries by a panel of judges led by the internationally-renowned food photographer David Loftus.
This year the judging panel included Chris Dee, Director, Food & Home, Harrods; Per-Anders Jorgensen, Photographer and Founder, Fool Magazine; Josh Lustig, Picture Editor, Financial Times Weekend Magazine; Vitalie Taittinger, President, Champagne Taittinger; Rein Skullerud, Head, Photography Unit, Communications Division, World Food Programme.
Founder and Director of the Awards, Caroline Kenyon said of Asad’s photograph, “This moving image really speaks to our times. The world is in the grip of Covid19 and normal life, whatever that may be, has stopped for all of us. These Rohingya refugee children remind us of the fragility of life, that our need for food for survival connects us all around the world. We are all the same.”
Online Awards
The Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year Awards ceremony usually takes place at the Mall Galleries with 400 guests, but this year because of the Covid19 lockdown, the Awards team took them online.
