SIGMA has unveiled the SIGMA 500mm F5.6 DG DN OS | Sports, price tag £2,779, designed specifically for full-frame Sony E-mount and L-mount mirrorless cameras.

This new ultra-telephoto prime lens is set for release on March 14, 2024 and stands out for its compact size and portability. Weighing just 1,370g and measuring 234.6mm in length, SIGMA has improved upon the size of the previous SIGMA 500mm F4 DG OS HSM | Sports designed for DSLRs.

Optically, the lens features a sophisticated design with 20 elements in 14 groups, including 3 FLD and 2 SLD elements, to minimise aberrations and ensure sharp, clear images across the frame. Its advanced autofocus system is powered by SIGMA’s High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) motor, offering fast, precise, and nearly silent operation.

Additionally, the lens incorporates the latest “OS2” Optical Stabilizer algorithm, providing up to 5 stops of effective stabilisation, enhancing its performance in challenging lighting conditions or when capturing fast-moving subjects.

The SIGMA 500mm F5.6 DG DN OS | Sports boasts a range of features tailored to demanding photography scenarios. These include a weather-resistant construction for shooting in harsh environments, a Focus Limiter switch to speed up autofocus acquisition, and customisable AFL buttons for enhanced operability.

The lens also offers compatibility with SIGMA TELE CONVERTER TC-1411 / TC-2011 (sold separately / for L-Mount only), extending its versatility for ultra-telephoto photography.

The new SIGMA lens is accompanied by a set of professional-grade accessories, including a cover-type lens hood designed to protect the lens and improve usability, and a detachable tripod socket for improved balance and stability when mounted on a tripod.
