Thypoch has announced the Ksana 35mm f/2 ASPH, a new full-frame M-mount prime lens aimed at photographers who want a classic reportage focal length in a small, tactile, brass-bodied package. The lens was announced on 21 May 2026 and is being positioned as a compact everyday companion for street, travel, portrait, landscape and documentary photography.

What I think makes this one particularly interesting is the way Thypoch is leaning into character rather than trying to make the lens sound completely neutral. The Ksana 35mm f/2 ASPH uses the brand’s Epoch Coating 84’, a coating approach designed to echo the gold-purple flare and warmer colour rendering associated with some 1980s optics. That should appeal to photographers who like a bit of atmosphere in their images, especially when shooting into light or working with scenes that benefit from a more cinematic look.

Physically, it is very much in the compact M-mount tradition. Thypoch lists the lens at 198.6g, with a 27mm length from flange to front, making it small enough to leave on a camera for day-to-day use. The 35mm focal length is the obvious all-rounder here: wide enough for context, tight enough for people, and familiar enough that many photographers can frame almost instinctively.

The build is also part of the story. The Ksana 35mm f/2 ASPH is made from brass and glass, and it is available in black or silver finishes. The black version uses a semi-gloss paint finish, while the silver version is intended to sit naturally on silver-bodied rangefinder cameras. A crescent-shaped focus tab is included, along with a tactile resistance point at 0.7m to remind users of the traditional rangefinder focusing limit.

Inside, the optical formula uses 8 elements in 5 groups, including 1 aspherical element, 1 ED element and 2 HRI elements. Thypoch says the design is intended to deliver crisp resolution, controlled aberrations and smooth bokeh, while the f/2 maximum aperture keeps the lens practical for low light and subject separation. The 0.5m close-focus distance is also worth noting, as it gives the lens more flexibility than a strict 0.7m-only rangefinder experience, provided your camera setup supports closer focusing.
