Sony has officially launched the Alpha 7 V (A7 V), the latest model in its popular full-frame mirrorless A7 series. Building on the success of the A7 IV, this fifth-generation body introduces cutting-edge AI autofocus, improved image quality and better video features, all while maintaining the 33-megapixel sensor that appeals to hybrid shooters.
Want to see the differences between the new and the old Sony A7? Then check out our Sony A7 IV Vs Sony A7 V post.
At the heart of the A7 V is the dual BIONZ XR processor, offering up to eight times more processing power than the previous generation. This enables Sony’s latest AI Processing Unit to deliver more accurate subject detection and real-time tracking. It can now recognise and track humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, and even aircraft, making it highly versatile across photography genres.
Photographers will appreciate the 5-axis in-body image stabilisation system, now rated at up to 8.0 stops of compensation. This is thanks to a newly optimised algorithm, making handheld shooting more reliable even in low light. The electronic viewfinder (EVF) is also improved, now offering a 3.68-million-dot OLED display with reduced latency and better visibility.
For video users, the A7 V records up to 4K 60p in 10-bit 4:2:2 using full pixel readout without binning. The camera supports S-Cinetone, S-Log3, and user LUTs, enabling easier colour grading workflows. Heat management has also been improved, allowing longer continuous recording sessions.
The design remains familiar, with the same ergonomics as the A7 IV, but now includes an optimised menu system, touch operation, and improved customisation. Connectivity includes USB-C 3.2, full-size HDMI, and dual SD/CFexpress Type A card slots.
This release positions the A7 V as a versatile hybrid camera that bridges the gap between enthusiast and professional users, bringing some of Sony’s flagship Alpha 1 and A7R V features to a more accessible price point.
