Every camera bag accumulates the same fine grit — sand from a beach shoot, dust from a loft, crumbs of who-knows-what from the bottom of a rucksack. Sabrent’s first air duster, the Blowzer X6, is a cordless electric alternative to canned air, and for anyone who cleans gear regularly it makes a reasonable case on running costs alone. Details are on Sabrent’s site.

The specification is punchy: a 130,000 RPM brushless motor producing airflow up to 86 metres per second, with three speed settings and a quoted 100 minutes of runtime per charge. That is comfortably enough for a full gear-cleaning session, and being rechargeable it sidesteps the ongoing cost — and the disposal problem — of compressed air cans.

For photographers the obvious appeal is bag and kit maintenance: blowing grit out of bag seams and zip channels, clearing dust from tripod leg locks and follow-focus gears, cleaning laptop keyboards and fan grilles, and getting sand out of the mounting points on action camera cages. Canned air has never been well suited to this, partly because of cost and partly because tilting a can can spray propellant onto whatever you are cleaning.

One important caution

We would add a warning that Sabrent’s marketing does not: do not point this at a camera sensor. A duster producing 86m/s of airflow is far too powerful for a bare sensor or shutter mechanism, and the risk is real — you can damage delicate shutter blades, or drive dust deeper into the mirror box rather than out of it. Sensor cleaning is a job for a manual rocket blower at a sensible distance, or a professional service.

The same applies to lens elements, where a strong blast can drive grit across the coating and cause exactly the fine scratches you were trying to avoid. Use this for bags, exteriors, keyboards, desks and workshop kit, and keep a hand blower for anything optical. Used with that boundary in mind, it looks a genuinely useful bit of desk equipment.

It is Sabrent’s first product in this category, and it has been reasonably received elsewhere. We have one on the way and will report back properly.
