Panasonic has announced a suite of firmware and app updates for its LUMIX ecosystem, introducing a host of new features aimed at improving creative workflows, enhancing usability, and broadening compatibility across devices. The updates apply to several LUMIX cameras and lenses, as well as the LUMIX Lab and LUMIX Flow apps, and will be available to download from 20th October 2025.
A highlight of the update is the launch of LUMIX Lab version 2.0, which debuts a new feature called Magic LUT. This AI-powered tool allows users to generate custom LUTs by analysing the tones and mood of any selected photo. These LUTs can be created from JPEG, HEIF, or MP4 files—even from devices beyond the LUMIX range—and applied to images and videos directly in-camera, with adjustable intensity for finer control.
LUMIX Flow app version 1.3 also introduces new capabilities, including vertical UI support for external monitors, improved mirroring with up to four connected devices, and enhanced storyboard editing features. Users of the LUMIX S5II, S5IIX, and GH7 will benefit from additional functionality such as live LUT previews and multiple frame marker overlays.
Firmware updates are rolling out to a variety of LUMIX bodies, including version 1.6 for the LUMIX S9, which now allows the camera’s focus ring to function as a control ring. This feature adds customisable functionality and lets users reverse the focus rotation direction—supporting a more personalised shooting experience. The S5II and S5IIX (firmware v3.4 and v2.4 respectively) also gain quicker startup times and Bluetooth compatibility with DJI RS 4 gimbals.
In parallel, new firmware for key S Series lenses—from 18mm to 100mm—enables the use of the focus ring as a customisable control ring, further streamlining the shooting process and integrating with updated body features.
