Nikon has announced the release of two new NIKKOR Z DX lenses, expanding the creative options for their range of APS-C mirrorless Z system cameras. The two lenses have both been launched today, the 16th October 2025, and will be available from 30th October. The two new optics include what looks to be a versatile NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR zoom lens and a compact NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7 macro prime. Both lenses bring advanced imaging features, including wide apertures, close-up capabilities and enhanced video performance, in lightweight and weather-sealed builds.

The NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR is Nikon’s first f/2.8 constant aperture zoom in its DX Z Mount range, and it’s designed to appeal to photographers looking for a fast, do-it-all lens. The lens features a focal range equivalent to 24-75mm on full-frame, and covers everything from landscapes and portraits to everyday scenes. The NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm features an f/2.8 aperture that will deliver low-light performance, shallow depth of field, and action-freezing shutter speeds. It’s also great to see that the lens includes built-in optical Vibration Reduction (VR) that enables up to 5 stops of shake reduction for sharper handheld shooting.

In addition, Nikon’s Hi-Res Zoom functionality allows users to digitally extend the focal length up to 100mm during video capture without image quality degradation. The lens also features quiet autofocus, minimal focus breathing and a silent control ring, making it well-suited to hybrid shooters who demand both sharp stills and smooth footage.

The NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7 joins as the first DX-format Micro (macro) lens for the Z system. With a 0.67x reproduction ratio (comparable to life-size on full-frame), it’s a great option for detailed close-ups of nature, food or everyday objects. Again it features a fast f/1.7 aperture which will enable handheld low-light photography and smooth background blur. The lens offers a minimum focus distance of just 16cm, making it ideal for macro experimentation, however, it is also versatile enough for portraits and general photography thanks to its natural 50mm full-frame equivalent field of view.

Commenting on the launch, Dirk Jasper, Product Manager at Nikon Europe, said:

“Our customers have been asking for more DX Z lenses, and we’ve been listening. With the introduction of a high-performance f/2.8 zoom lens and a fast macro lens, DX camera owners get two great opportunities to take the next step in their creative journey.”

Compact, sealed, and optimised for both stills and video, these two new additions make Nikon’s DX Z system more appealing than ever to enthusiasts and content creators alike.
