Minisforum is now selling the MS-S1 Max through its UK store, giving photographers and video editors a direct route to one of the few AI mini PCs that can take a full-length graphics card. The MS-S1 Max 128GB Max AI Compute Edition is listed at £3,399 with a 2TB SSD and £3,719 with a 4TB SSD, down from £4,249 and £4,649 respectively. A 64GB version is listed at £2,359, reduced from £2,949.
At the heart of the machine is AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395, a 16-core, 32-thread processor that boosts to 5.1GHz, paired with Radeon 8060S integrated graphics with 40 GPU cores. Its NPU is rated at up to 50 TOPS, and Minisforum quotes up to 126 TOPS for the whole platform. The 128GB of LPDDR5x memory runs at up to 8000MHz on a 256-bit bus and is shared between CPU and GPU, which is what lets this class of machine load very large AI models locally.
Minisforum is leaning hard on that. It says the MS-S1 Max can run 128B+ parameter language models on a single unit, that two units can be clustered for 235B models, and that a four-unit cluster has run DeepSeek-R1 671B Q4. The chassis can also be fitted into a 2U rack in a four-unit configuration.
For us, though, the more interesting feature is the one that sets the MS-S1 Max apart from most Strix Halo mini PCs: a full-length PCIe x16 slot, which runs at PCIe 4.0 x4. That leaves room to add a discrete GPU or a high-speed network or capture card later. Connectivity is just as strong, with two 80Gbps USB4 V2 ports and two 10GbE Ethernet ports on the back, plus two 40Gbps USB4 ports on the front. That combination suits photographers working from fast external SSDs or a 10GbE NAS, where moving large RAW and video libraries is often the real bottleneck.
Storage is handled by two M.2 2280 NVMe slots, each supporting drives up to 8TB, with RAID 0 and 1. Power comes from a built-in 320W supply, and the machine runs in Performance (130W sustained, 160W peak), Balanced (95W) and Quiet (60W) modes. Cooling uses six heat pipes with phase-change material and dual turbine fans.
We’ve already covered why the MS-S1 Max is the only AI mini PC you can add a real GPU to, as well as the newer MS-S1 Max-P495 with 192GB of memory. A UK store listing with sterling pricing and a two-year warranty makes the standard model a much easier purchase for UK buyers. Note that the UK store lists stock as shipping from a Hong Kong warehouse, with dispatch in two to three days and delivery in seven to ten.
