Leica Camera AG has unveiled the Leica SL3 Reporter, a durable design variant of its flagship mirrorless full-frame SL3, aimed squarely at professional photographers working in extreme environments. Released as part of the brand’s acclaimed Reporter series, the SL3 Reporter was officially announced on 6 November 2025 and offers a blend of premium performance and rugged resilience.

Based on the same platform as the existing Leica SL3, the Reporter edition retains its powerful core specifications – including a 60-megapixel full-frame sensor, fast and precise autofocus system, and seamless wireless integration via the Leica FOTOS App. However, what sets this model apart is its robust build and purposeful design tailored for fieldwork.

The SL3 Reporter features a highly scratch-resistant dark green finish and is wrapped in aramid fibre – a synthetic material used in ballistic protection – providing a heightened level of abrasion resistance and environmental shielding. This design not only protects the camera but also enhances grip, offering greater stability for handheld shooting. With use, the aramid covering is expected to develop a distinctive patina, adding to the character of each camera.

In keeping with its discreet visual profile, Leica has omitted its iconic red dot logo on the SL3 Reporter, underscoring the model’s suitability for press photography, documentary work, and reportage where subtlety can be essential. Blacked-out controls further reduce visual distraction, reinforcing the understated yet professional appearance.

The SL3 Reporter comes in the same milestone year as Leica’s 100th anniversary celebration of the original Leica I – the revolutionary 35mm camera first shown at the Leipzig Spring Fair in 1925. This centenary is being marked by global exhibitions and limited-edition releases, making the SL3 Reporter part of a significant moment in the brand’s storied history.
