Fujifilm has moved to squash a rumour that its popular X-T5 had been quietly killed off ahead of a successor. Speaking to Digital Camera World, a Fujifilm representative stated plainly that the X-T5 has not been discontinued.
The confusion started in Japan, where several major camera retailers — reportedly including Fujifilm’s own store — listed an X-T5 variant as “sales ended”. With Fujifilm yet to launch a single X Series camera in 2026 and speculation about the next generation running hot, it didn’t take long for that listing to be read as the X-T5 bowing out. Closer inspection suggests the affected listing is specifically the X-T5 bilingual model rather than the camera as a whole, and stock remains available at retailers elsewhere.
It’s a small story with a useful lesson attached: a regional listing change is not a discontinuation, and in a vacuum of new product news, small signals get over-read. Fujifilm is currently in the pause between generations, having updated nearly all of its X Series line with the 40.2MP X-Trans sensor, and that quiet period is precisely when rumours fill the gap.
None of which means a successor isn’t coming — X-T6 speculation continues to build towards an expected early-September announcement. But it’s worth remembering that Fujifilm has form for selling two generations alongside each other: the X-T4 and X-T5 were available together for a considerable stretch before the older model was retired.
