DxO has released PhotoLab 10.0.1 for Windows, a maintenance update arriving just days after the software’s launch. The headline fix is compatibility with NVIDIA driver 616.56. Details are on the DxO PhotoLab page.

What it fixes

The update restores compatibility with NVIDIA’s 616.56 driver and is available with immediate effect.

That matters more than a point release usually would, because DxO’s most demanding features lean heavily on the GPU. DeepPRIME XD denoising is among the most graphics-intensive tasks in photography, and PhotoLab 10’s new Depth Masks generate their depth maps using AI processing that also runs on the graphics card. A driver incompatibility on a machine with an NVIDIA card is not a cosmetic problem — it is the difference between the software working as intended and not.

Driver-related issues of this kind are common enough after a major release, and the speed of the response is worth noting: PhotoLab 10 launched on 1 September, and this fix arrived on the 4th.

Worth updating

If you run PhotoLab on Windows with an NVIDIA graphics card, install this before doing anything else — particularly if you have noticed denoising or masking behaving oddly since upgrading. If you are on macOS or using AMD or integrated graphics, it is less urgent.

It is also a reminder of something worth knowing generally: graphics drivers and creative software are more tightly coupled than they used to be, and updating a driver the day it appears is not always the safest move when your livelihood runs through the machine.

PhotoLab 10 introduced Depth Masks, a new Color Grading toolset, expanded AI masking including face segmentation, automatic sensor dust removal and a direct route into Affinity for pixel-level editing.
