Canon has added a new hybrid lens to its RF mount line-up: the RF 85mm F1.4 VCM. Designed with both photographers and videographers in mind, the new 85mm sits alongside Canon’s VCM hybrid range, combining lightweight handling with high optical performance.
The lens offers a classic 85mm focal length, much loved for flattering portraits and natural compression. Its bright f/1.4 aperture helps deliver creamy bokeh and excellent low-light performance, all while keeping weight to a minimum compared to bulkier f/1.2 alternatives. At just over half the weight of the RF 85mm F1.2L, this lens makes for a practical choice for event, wedding and hybrid shooters looking to balance quality and portability.
Canon’s VCM (Voice Coil Motor) autofocus system enables fast, precise, and quiet focusing — particularly advantageous for video. The lens also features an iris ring for seamless aperture control in video, plus a programmable function button and custom control ring. Canon is positioning this lens not only for stills and portrait shooters, but for small production teams, content creators, and run-and-gun videographers who need professional quality in a compact package.
