3 Legged Thing has launched three new dedicated L-brackets for mirrorless cameras, with Oscar QD, Paige QD and Zayne QD covering selected OM System, Panasonic Lumix and Nikon bodies.

The idea is simple, but useful: each bracket is shaped for a specific camera body, rather than relying on a universal fit. That means photographers can switch between landscape and portrait orientation on a tripod while keeping the camera better balanced over the head, without blocking the battery door, ports or rear screen movement where the host camera design allows it. As we found in our 3 Legged Thing Arnie L-bracket review, a well-made dedicated bracket can make tripod work feel more secure while maintaining access to the camera’s key doors and ports.

Oscar QD is designed for the OM System OM-3 and is the most substantial of the three, partly because it includes a detachable grip for those who want a more secure handheld feel. 3 Legged Thing says it gives full access to the OM-3’s battery door and side ports, with a shorter upright to keep port doors accessible. For anyone comparing the wider system, our guide to the best Micro Four Thirds cameras from Olympus and Panasonic explains why the format remains popular for compact, lightweight camera setups.

Paige QD is 3 Legged Thing’s first dedicated L-bracket for the Lumix system, fitting the Panasonic Lumix S5 II, S5 IIX and G9 II. Its shorter upright is designed so the rear screen can be opened and tilted, which is an important detail for video shooters and hybrid creators using articulated displays. The Lumix S5 II is also included in our guide to which cameras shoot 4K video at 60fps, while the Lumix S5 II and G9 II both feature in our guide to cameras with in-body image stabilisation.

Zayne QD, meanwhile, is built for the Nikon Z50 II. It keeps access to side ports and the battery door, and the vertical aspect is shaped to allow the rear screen to be opened and tilted. You can read more about the camera itself in our Nikon Z50 II review, where its autofocus, subject tracking and beginner-friendly handling stood out.

Across all three models, 3 Legged Thing has added standard 38mm Arca-Swiss compatibility, a built-in QD socket for its AXIS Camera Strap System, and XPAND slots for building out a modular rig with the brand’s Cheese Plates, Risers and Connectors. The QD socket ties in neatly with the system we tested in our 3 Legged Thing AXIS Camera Strap System review, while the Arca-Swiss approach will be familiar to anyone using heads such as the 3 Legged Thing AirHed Vision.

Each bracket also comes with a Peak Design Capture v3-compatible adapter and pass-through camera screw. For hybrid shooters building a compact rig, the accessory threads should also pair well with products like the 3 Legged Thing Pivot Magic Arms, which are designed for mounting monitors, lights, microphones and other accessories.

I think the real appeal here is that these are not just tripod plates. The combination of strap support, accessory threads and XPAND compatibility makes them feel more like small camera bases for photographers and hybrid shooters who want one fitted bracket to handle tripod work, carrying and light rigging.
