Panasonic has announced the launch of its new LUMIX G series mirrorless single-lens camera in Japan, the LUMIX “DC-G100D,” set to release on January 26, 2024. This camera will find appeal to those transitioning from smartphone photography or venturing into interchangeable lens cameras for the first time.

The DC-G100D stands out with its compact and lightweight design, weighing approximately 346 grams, making it highly portable and user-friendly. Despite its size, the camera promises high-quality photo and video capabilities, simplifying professional photography for beginners and enthusiasts alike.

One of the significant upgrades in the DC-G100D is the introduction of a “W kit,” which includes a telephoto zoom lens along with the standard zoom lens. This addition addresses requests from users of the previous model and offers greater flexibility in capturing everything from wide-angle to telephoto shots, ideal for various scenarios like group photos, distant landscapes, and events.

Panasonic offers three lens kit options to cater to different user needs: the “K kit” with a standard zoom lens, the “V kit” featuring a standard zoom lens and a tripod grip, and the new “W kit” with both standard and telephoto zoom lenses.

The camera is not just about its physical attributes. It boasts a high-quality 20.3-megapixel LiveMOS sensor and Venus Engine, ensuring faithful color reproduction. Noteworthy features include face/eye recognition AF, a focus select function, and an approximately 2.36 million-dot OLED finder for improved visibility, even in strong sunlight.

For video enthusiasts, the DC-G100D offers 4K30p recording, perfect for high-quality Vlog creation, along with slow and quick effects for a broader range of video expression. A 5-axis hybrid image stabilization function ensures steady shots, especially when shooting handheld.

Panasonic envisions the DC-G100D as a versatile camera that enables both hobbyists and event photographers to capture professional-grade images with ease. However, due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, there might be potential delays in the release or supply chain disruptions. Panasonic assures customers that any updates regarding the release date will be promptly shared on their website.
