Another manufacturer with a history in film camera production, Olympus now offers a range of compact digital cameras as well as Micro Four Thirds mirrorless system cameras. The mirrorless system models are divided into two lines, Pen and OM-D. The Pen range are more rectangular in shape, resembling rangefinder cameras while the OM-D line follows a more SLR-like design ethic. At one point the absence of a built-in viewfinder also distinguished Pen cameras from the OM-D series, but the introduction of the Olympus Pen-F in January 2016 changed that. Olympus really kicked-off the trend for in-camera filter effects, known as Art Filters. It has also introduced some of the most useful technologies with features like Hi Res Shot mode enabling the creation of images that have far more pixels than the sensor and Live Bulb, Live Time and Live Composite mode taking the guesswork out of long exposures.
