Nikon has announced the NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S, price tag £15,499 / €17,999, a new super-telephoto lens for professionals aimed at professional sport and wildlife photographers.
Chief among the NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S feature set is a built-in 1.4x teleconverter that extends the lens’ focal length to 840mm. What’s more, the new Nikon lens is compatible with the Z 2x and Z 1.4x teleconverters, meaning you can extend its focal length to up to 1680mm.
Meanwhile, in-lens Vibration Reduction promises 5 stops of exposure compensation for shake-free shots, or 5.5 stops when using a Nikon Z series camera that supports Synchro VR.
The Nikon NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S also promises powerful AF performance thanks to Nikon’s Silky Swift voice coil motor and an optical ABS encoder, which detects and communicates the lens position.
Nikon has also added its anti-reflective Mess Amorphous Coat to reduce ghosting and flare, even when faced with direct light sources in the frame from both diagonal and vertical directions.
The NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S has been weather-sealed around all of its moving parts and around the lens mount, while a fluorine coating has been added to the front element.
Nikon says it has also designed the lens’ centre of gravity towards the middle of the tripod foot to make its operation more stable and less of a strain on the user’s posture.
The Nikon NIKKOR Z 600mm f/4 TC VR S release date will be 2 November 2022.
