Fujifilm has issued a firmware update that will uninstall its recently launched firmware version 4.00 for the X-T2 and reinstall version 3.00 after users reported bugs with their cameras.
Fujifilm version 4.01 has been issued in response to issues reported by users with version 4.00 that was released on 8 May. Today Fujifilm has announced it is withdrawing that firmware update for the X-T2 via version 4.01, which will roll your camera back to the functionality of version 3.00.
Fujifilm details the reported problems as:
1. When RAW files, which were taken by X-T2 (before firmware ver.4.00), are converted in camera (ver.4.00) or by “FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO”, they are not converted properly.
2. When pressing the shutter button halfway under certain conditions, the live view can flicker.
3. In rare cases, a hang-up can occur. We will inform you later of the detail of fixed firmware for the malfunctions.
As a temporary solution for customers who have upgraded the firmware to ver.4.00, we have prepared a new firmware version of 4.01 whose functions are same as the ver.3.00.
Please update your camera to ver.4.01 to avoid the malfunctions.
*Ver.4.01 doesn’t include the additional functions of ver.4.00.
What’s more, the General Manager of Fujifilm’s imaging division has posted an apology on the company’s website:
To all loyal Fujifilm X Series customers and photographers,
It has been brought to our attention that there are a few issues with the recently released X-T2 ver 4.00 firmware update. We have therefore taken the difficult decision to remove the update from the website until we are confident that all the issues have been completely fixed.
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience and disappointment this has caused.
Sincerely yours,
Toshi Iida
General Manager
Optical Device and Electronic Imaging Products Division
Fujifilm Corporation, Tokyo, JAPAN
Kudos to Fujifilm for acknowledging the problem and working to rectify it. We’ve no doubt we’ll be seeing version 4.00 revamped and relaunched here very soon (as 4.02?).
In the meantime, click here to download firmware version 4.01 if you’re an X-T2 user.
