DJI, has announced the launch of the DJI Air 3S just over a year after the release of the DJI Air 3 last June. Once again we see a dual-camera drone designed for travel photographers and enthusiasts with a little more bulk and weight than the Mini range but with a huge leap in the quality of the cameras and imaging potential. The new drone is released today, 15th October 2024, and like the Air3 the Air 3S has been designed to capture stunning landscapes, portraits, and even night scenes with its advanced 1-inch-CMOS primary camera and 70mm medium telephoto camera.

The Air is the midweight model in the range sitting between the ultra small DJI Mini 3 and Mavic 3 Classic Weighing just 724g, this drone offers a dynamic range of up to 14 stops, which provides users with flexible shooting options for various environments and lighting conditions.
Both cameras on the Air 3S support DJI’s latest Free Panorama mode, seamlessly stitching together multiple images for panoramic shots. The 50MP primary camera records video in 4K/60fps HDR, as well as 10-bit D-Log M for precise color reproduction, while the 48MP secondary camera excels in portrait photography with its 3x optical zoom.
One of the most anticipated features is the new nightscape obstacle sensing technology, which uses omnidirectional sensors and forward-facing LiDAR to detect obstacles even in low-light conditions. This, combined with DJI’s Smart RTH (Return-to-Home) feature, ensures safe and reliable operation for nighttime photography.
The Air 3S is designed with extended creative features such as ActiveTrack 360°, allowing the drone to intelligently follow subjects and maintain optimal framing, even in challenging environments like forests or urban landscapes. The drone also boasts a 45-minute maximum flight time, providing ample time for scouting, composing, and capturing cinematic shots.
For aerial photographers seeking greater control, the Air 3S offers enhanced transmission capabilities with 10-bit O4 video transmission technology, reaching distances of up to 20 kilometers. The built-in 42GB storage and Off-State QuickTransfer function allow seamless file transfers to smartphones or computers.
