GoPro has officially launched the Max 2, the long-awaited successor to its 360-degree action camera line, bringing a host of improvements aimed at immersive content creators. With refined dual-lens capture, updated internal hardware and smoother editing workflows, the Max 2 strengthens GoPro’s position in the niche — but growing — world of spherical and panoramic video.
Following years of demand for a new Max, the Max 2 keeps the camera’s hallmark dual-lens 360 capture but boosts video quality to a crisp 5.7K resolution. Built for adventurers, vloggers and professionals seeking ultra-wide creativity, the Max 2 combines GoPro’s robust stabilisation with a range of shooting modes including HERO Mode (single-lens standard video), 360 Mode, and a new Max TimeWarp function for hyperlapse lovers.
The physical design has been overhauled, with a more rugged chassis and improved microphones for spatial audio. Notably, GoPro introduces Horizon Lock in 360 mode, ensuring that even fully rotated footage remains level, a game-changer for VR and immersive storytelling. The Max 2 also benefits from the latest GP2 processor, which delivers faster boot times, lower latency and smoother mobile previews — long-standing user requests.
GoPro’s Quik app has also been updated to accommodate Max 2 footage with improved reframing tools, allowing users to export flat video from 360 clips easily. With waterproofing up to 5m (16ft), voice control, and enhanced battery life, the Max 2 is positioned as both a standalone powerhouse and a perfect companion to GoPro’s Hero line-up.
While GoPro has yet to announce a “Hero 13” or its rumoured “Lit Hero” compact camera, the Max 2 reaffirms the company’s commitment to immersive formats and gives creators a powerful new tool heading into 2026.
