Today Nikon has released the latest firmware version 2.00 for the Nikon Z6III, this is the first major update for the camera sinces its launch. The update has been designed to boost the Nikon Z6III’s abilities and performance by additing features that we have already seen in the manufactureres flagship Z9 and Z8 models, and should ensure that it’s appeal to wildlife, sports, and professional photographers is expanded.
One of the hotley anticipated additions is the new [Birds] mode which will be accessable from within the subject detection system. Once this mode has been enabled, the Z6III automatically identifies and tracks birds in flight, helping to maintain sharp focus even when birds are set against complex or high-contrast backgrounds, such as dense woodland and even rocky terrain. This feature upgrade will be a welcomed by birding enthusiasts who need absolute subject detection accuracy and fast autofocus in dynamic conditions.
One of the other big new features that will be unlocked with this new firmware update v2.00 is Auto Capture. This new feature enables you to set predefined conditions, such as subject type, movement direction, and distance, and once detected the camera will to trigger the shutter automatically.
This new Auto Capture feature will come in useful in plenty of situations where manually triggering the shutter would disturb the subject, or in remote, hard-to-reach locations. This makes the Z6III more adaptable for use in wildlife photography, studio setups, and time-sensitive environments.
In a first for Nikon, the Z6III now supports the Nikon Authenticity Service, a content verification system compliant with the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) standard. Aimed at journalists and professional content creators, this tool embeds provenance data from capture through to editing, enhancing the trustworthiness and transparency of digital imagery.
