Sony has officially released the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G, a new addition to its acclaimed G Lens series, designed specifically for its full-frame α (Alpha) E-mount cameras. This large-aperture wide-angle zoom lens is engineered to deliver exceptional image quality across a variety of photographic styles, including landscapes, astrophotography, and general snapshots.
Launched on April 16th, the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G maintains a constant F2.8 maximum aperture throughout its 16 mm to 25 mm zoom range, offering both high resolution and beautiful bokeh effects. This lens is noted for its compactness and lightweight, tipping the scales at just 409 grams, which enhances its portability and makes it an excellent choice for creators who are always on the move.
The lens features an 11-blade circular aperture, which contributes to its stunning bokeh, a characteristic that has become synonymous with Sony’s G lenses. It also boasts advanced autofocus capabilities that are fast, precise, and remarkably quiet, thanks to the inclusion of two linear motors. These features make the lens particularly effective for capturing fast-moving subjects and suitable for high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking—up to approximately 120 frames per second on compatible α9 III cameras.

Furthermore, the lens supports the α series camera’s “Active Mode” image stabilization, providing effective stabilization even during video recording.
The lens is designed for durability, featuring dust and moisture resistance and a fluorine coating on the front element to repel water and oil.
