Sennheiser has expanded its renowned MKH series with the launch of the MKH 8018, a new stereo shotgun microphone aimed squarely at professionals in film, television, and field recording. The MKH 8018 blends the brand’s legacy of pristine audio quality with a compact, modular design that promises both flexibility and rugged performance in demanding environments.

Announced at NAB Show 2024, the MKH 8018 is a response to increasing demand for stereo capture solutions that don’t compromise on directionality or detail. Based on the same symmetrical RF condenser technology that underpins the popular MKH 8000 series, this new microphone delivers exceptional resistance to humidity, low self-noise, and a highly natural stereo image.

The microphone features an MZX 8000 XLR module combined with the new MKH 8018 stereo capsule head, producing an acoustically precise mid-side stereo pattern. The compact form factor, at just 205 mm in length and weighing only 55 g (excluding the module), makes it a perfect choice for boom operation and mobile recording setups.

Sound professionals will appreciate the MKH 8018’s focus on capturing immersive stereo soundscapes without requiring a dual-mic setup. The stereo shotgun configuration offers sharp directivity with clear channel separation, ideal for outdoor use, sports broadcasting, or wildlife documentaries where clarity and spatial accuracy are essential.

The modular design is compatible with existing MKH 8000 accessories and filter modules, allowing users to tailor their setup for different environments or recording requirements. The mic is also designed to work seamlessly with professional wind protection systems such as the Rycote Cyclone and Cinela’s COSI and Pianissimo.
