Samsung has announced the launch of its ‘PRO Ultimate’ memory card series. These new cards have been designed to cater to the demands of professional photographers and content creators, and the new series will be available in both microSD and full-size SD formats.
UHS-I Interface
The UHS-I contacts might not quite reach the speeds of the latest UHS-II SD cards, but the new PRO Ultimate series are still incredibly fast with read speeds of up to 200MB/s and write speeds of 130MB/s, this will enable you to capture 4K ultra-high definition (UHD) and Full HD (FHD) videos. The cards support Video Speed Class 30 (V30) meaning the minium write speed is 30MB/s making them an ideal choice for standard video production.
Enhanced Reliability and Durability
Samsung make a big deal about the PRO Ultimate series reliability. The advanced Error Correction Code (ECC) engine and multi-proof protection features ensure secure data storage even over extended periods. An upgrade to the ECC’s Low-Density Parity Check (LDPC) code enhances durability for a higher volume of write-and-erase cycles. Samsung has tested the card through a variety of tests that include water immersion for up to 72 hours at a depth of two meters and a drop-proof design from heights of up to five meters, as soon as a review sample arrives I’ll put these claims to the test.
Optimized Power Efficiency
The inclusion of a 28-nanometer (nm) controller in the PRO Ultimate series improves power efficiency by 37%, compared to previous models featuring a 55nm controller. This innovation extends device battery life, this essentially means that the card draws less power from the card and should also help to keep things a little cooler.
Versatile Compatibility
The PRO Ultimate SD card is compatible with a wide range of devices including DSLR and mirrorless cameras, camcorders, PCs, and laptops. Its microSD counterpart offers expansive compatibility with a range of devices including action cameras and drones.
Availability and Warranty
The PRO Ultimate microSD card is available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage capacities with prices starting from £19.49. The microSD card with the USB card reader starts from £24.99. The PRO Ultimate SD card is offered in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options, with prices starting from £15.99. The SD card bundled with the USB card reader starts from £21.79.
The microSD card variant will be exclusively available on Amazon from early September, while the PRO Ultimate SD card is slated for an October 2023 release.
