Ricoh has announced the GR IIIx, price tag £899.99 / €999, an update to the popular compact camera which boasts a newly developed 26.1mm lens.
The Ricoh GR IIIx is the latest in the company’s popular GR series and is an update to the GR III, launched in March 2019. New to the GR IIIx is a 26.1mm (40mm equivalent) f/2.8 lens. The new lens is comprised of seven elements in five groups, of which two are aspherical lens elements.
Inside the Ricoh GR IIIx is a 24.24-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and Ricoh’s new GR Engine 6 image processor. The GR IIIx’s sensor can shoot 14-bit raw images and three-axis sensor-shift shake reduction provides four stops of compensation.
A built-in anti-aliasing filter simulator offers Off, Low and High settings, and sensitivity ranges from ISO 100 up to 102,400.
The Ricoh GR IIIx uses a Hybrid AF system which combines a contrast-type AF mechanism with phase-detection AF. There’s also new face and eye detection AF modes, and Ricoh says it will soon issue a firmware update to provide this feature to Ricoh GR III users.
Video-wise, the Ricoh GR IIIx doesn’t shoot 4K, but it does record Full HD at up to 60fps in H.264.
Other features include a new 3-inch 1,037k-dot touchscreen LCD on the rear of the camera with an Outdoor View Setting for better viewing in bright sunlight. There is also in-camera image editing capability and Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity.
The Ricoh GR IIIx price will be £899.99 / €999, with a release date set for September 2021.
Oh, man! I WISH they (or someone) would make an APS-C 43mm (true normal) full frame equivalent. Why 40mm? Why not 43mm or 50mm equivalent. I’m sure the camera will be good, but a 43mm would have been even better IMO.
Id love to see the a richo gr3 with atleast 30 mp
